It is nice and cosy to read in bed before sleeping - I think. The following books are some I have read and that I would like to recommend.
There have been judged with trees, where 5 () is max.

Christian Jacq:  The Ramses-series
  1. The Son of the Light
  2. The Temple of a Million Years
  3. The Battle of Kadesh
  4. The Lady of Abu Simbel
  5. Under the Western Acacia
Ramses the 2nd as a hero. Good and exciting read, with a cliffhanger at the end of nearly every chapter.

J. R. R. Tolkien:
  • The Hobbit
  • The Lord of the Rings

One book to rule them all. The Lord of the Rings is the best book I have ever read! Pure escapism fantasy. Read The Hobbit first, it is directed towards kids but is a prequel to The Lord of the Rings and is also very good.

Dan Simmons:  Hyperion Cantos
  1. Hyperion
  2. The Fall of Hyperion
  3. Endymion
  4. The Rise of Endymion

Science Fiction when it is best. Takes place several hundred years in the future and is riveting in its descriptions of how our future could look with religion, war, time portals which opens back into time and nano-machines which can offer "eternal life"

Jan Guillou:  Crusades Trilogy
  1. The Road to Jerusalem
  2. The Knight Templar
  3. The Kingdom at the End of the Road
  4. The Heritage of Arn

Takes place in the beginning of the middle ages. The first 3 books is about Arn, who becomes a knight templar, goes on a crusade and returns home. The last book is about his heritage.
Anne Rice:  Vampire-novels
  1. Interview with the Vampire
  2. The Vampire Lestat
  3. The Queen of the Damned
  4. The Tale of the Body Thief
Vampires as seen from their own point of view. Very exciting, fantastic tales. I've also read the two next books in the series, but they are not as good as the others, especially The Vampire Armand is some of the most boring I have read.

Richard Adams:  Watership Down Is about a group of rabbits' experiences but is not as you probably would expect written for children. Really good, exciting read. Adams had also written the sequel "Tales from Watership Down" but it is not quite as good.
